And thank you to all who sent good wishes, I am just fine! I just ate something that didn't agree with me is all. (Not like Pretzel, who wolfs his food and anyone else's (if Mom gets distracted for a millisecond) and then yaks. I don't do that.)

But staying with Mom all night was fun!

I wonder if I run around and get my ears all hot again that I might get to do it again. What do you think?

So today I kept an eyeball out for the UPS guy. He was bringing the new platform for Mom's new bed. And do you know what happened after he came?

I got to help Mom set it up and then I got to thoroughly check it out! Just me! Not Screamoline and not even my bro. Just me! I just chirped like crazy, it was so much fun.

Now, if I could only get her let me check out the new mattress... Quality control is important, you know.

This morning I overheard my mom make an appointment for me and Kangaroo Girl at the cat fix-it place for our shots. I am sick of shots. For the ninth time, I do not have rabies. I will never get rabies. And I don't want to get into that horrible, terrible troll box.

Everybody knows what happened last time I was forced into that horrible, terrible troll box.

Can you believe it? That big baby Caroline slept in Mom's room last night! And all because she yakked earlier in the day and then her ears were all hot. Pffft. So what makes that so special?

So right after my afternoon nap...

...I saw a bird almost fly into the sliding glass door! He turned at the last possible moment and flew up to the roof. Then another, smarter bird who wasn't fooled by the glass appeared! And the first bird took off, and the second bird gave chase. I guess they were playing tag or something–you know, like Caroline and I do. I watched for a long time but when they didn't come back I decided to do something else. And that was pretty much my day today.

So my mom ordered a new bed this morning. For herself, that is. I wonder if that means I'll get her old one? I know my back has never hurt from sleeping on it. She could put it right where I am now and I could catch the rays in complete comfort!

You know, since my mom's been working from home, sometimes I can't tell what day it is, but I'm pretty sure today is Thursday and tomorrow is Friday.

Not that it matters much to me–one day is pretty much like the next.

Anyway, this week we did find this neat planetarium for our pc. It is extremely cool–we can see all the stars without going out or even being near a window. And best of all? No light pollution! It's free at stellarium.org. Maybe if everybody looks real hard we can see those planets with cats!

It's me, Caroline!

Today was a very good day for both me and my mom. I got to go into her room while she was packing up a little wicker trunk. It was just us–without my pesky sisters and yakky brother to take her attention away, that was a lot of fun! I got to check everything out and then lounge on the bed. And Mom was finally able to recover some very important lost files from like a million years ago after four days, ten recovery tools, and a zillion CDs. She was very very happy about that. (She was all 'Thank you!' 900 times.)

Oh, and I got a celebratory Cheez-It!

(Oh, and about where my dumb brother was sleeping yesterday? That's one of the sleep boxes we had on our old tower from the house. They're now in Mom's office. Oh, and, yes, I'm on the washer but I don't do laundry.)

I want my mom to clean up this mess but it seems to be getting worse. She says it's a scanning project in process but what has that got to do with me? Where can I sleep while she's doing this? There's much excitement around here. First, Mom said there was a spider as big as me in the bathroom this morning! Somehow, though, when she caught him in a glass and tossed him to freedom off the balcony, I missed this.

Second, my favorite Aunt L is coming for a visit beginning on Thursday! That is only two days away! I haven't seen her in so long that I can barely nap just thinking about it!

Well, while people debate the meaning of the Mayan calendar for December 2012, they totally missed what the Mayans secretly predicted for today: RUSSELL REFUSES DINNER.

Now, you know the boy is a complete Hoover. But tonight–right about the time we all felt the earth fly off its axis–he absolutely refused to even give a lick to Meow Mix Salmon and Red Snapper. This was a new brand and flavor for us, so the minute we all finished scarfing it down, we fell over in complete shock.

This may be the beginning of the end!

First of all, thanks to everyone who wished us a Merry Catmas and Happy Snooze Year. And also greetings on my blogoversary. And for all the well wishes for my mom, too. You know, the older she gets, the longer it takes her to recuperate from bugs. And do you think she listens to us about eating them to begin with? No.

In the meantime, Mom managed to rally enough to take Pee to the cat fix-it place for her annual checkup and shots on Friday, and ever since then Pee has been sneezing sneezing sneezing. We've kept our distance, because, really, we don't want to get sick and we're kinda sick of all the sickness around here! Pee is not sneezing so much today, so maybe she's on the mend, too.

Anyway, I'll be catching up on visiting soon. That's one of my resolutions! That and losing a pound or two. Ha ha ha ha!

We had a wonderful Catmas. We got toys and nip and stuff. There were two toys we wrecked right away. One with red feathers (you'll see me wearing part of it below) and another with nip in it that I ripped open practically on contact.

And do you know what? I already got a present! A birdie came to sit on our balcony wall. And it was a kind of birdie I have never seen before, so that made it doubly special. My mom thought it might be a curve-billed thrasher. No matter–I was so happy to see him that I was laughing!

And Caroline's decorated, too (although that was for Spitty, I think!).

We've gotten about four inches at our place so far. It started right about 8:00 this morning and just hasn't stopped! How fun is this? Non-stop entertainment from the windows while we watch in absolute comfort and warmth!

Isn't she silly?

Yep, it sure has been freezy, all right, the third part of the storm that started last week. One of the nice things about having my mom at home is better temperature control. Today, for instance, when it probably didn't get above 25° outside, we had good heat all day! Plus, she's left the fuzzy blanket out so we all nap on and under it, too.

We wound up not getting as much snow as we expected in the metro because the winds intervened again and blew a lot of it away. It's supposed to be very cold for the next few days before things return to more normal temps and sunshine, though. Not that we care. We're ALL WARM!

Well, we're in the middle of some giantly windy storm, very powerful and very loud. Caroline spent her time sneering at it...when she wasn't hiding, that is.

I just watched leaves flying all over the place all day long! That was pretty exciting. My mom even moved things on the balcony so our stuff wouldn't fly away.

We're all pretty relieved that we're no longer in danger from mammoth tree branches like at the old place. But you know what? At some point, our neighbor's trash bin blew right into our garage door! That made a racket, all right!

At the end of these terrible winds, we're supposed to get snow. I can't wait!

So we had a relaxing day today. We even had the balcony door open a bit this afternoon and got some nice fresh air. Today my mom wasn't upside down when she got this shot of us (my sister's idea for yesterday).

Oh, you know what else happened yesterday? My silly bro made a beeline into the garage just as Mom was coming in from an errand and he wouldn't come back into the house! So she shut the door and went upstairs. Well, not even a minute later, who was crying like a little baby? My silly brother, of course. Guess it wasn't as fun as he thought it would be.

So I don't know what we'll be doing this weekend. Probably catching up on our sleep. Yeah, that sounds good!

It's me, Caroline!

This is where I spent most of my day, lounging in the sun. Oh, and guess what? We got about 35 grains of snow yesterday morning! (Yes, here the snow sometimes looks like Cream of Wheat, only whiter! How silly is that?)

And could that Pretzel be any dimmer? We didn't suffer any dinnertime problems because we had been eating at about 6:00 anyway and now we eat at 5:00. Sure, it looks the same, but I can tell time and he can't!

Woes "R" Us.

Well, I'll tell ya. The girls have been streaking around the house for the last few days like their tails are on fire, and boy, that's pretty disruptive. Mom's been off her routine of things, too, and that's pretty disruptive, too. (Her launch has been rescheduled due to unforeseen red tape delays and a host gone very, very bad. While we wait to get all that straightened out, it's meant us suffering with her through Kojak* and The Rifleman** reruns on MeTV in the afternoons. We feared this would happen, although I suppose it's better than HSN, because that would only lead to serious trouble. We'd have a living room full of weird spice storage units, cheap jewelry, fake vacuums and George Foreman grills in all manner of color and size. ::shudder::)

At least the stupid time change didn't disrupt our dinner–I think the clock shows it's an hour earlier but it comes at the same time of day for us. And at least that giant asteroid didn't land on us and squash us like bugs.

*Seriously, Mom? You really used to watch this in the 70s? Under your own volition? Sorry, but it doesn't translate well.
**What? You used to watch that, too? FROM THE 60s??? And what is with the 'dad jeans' on that guy, anyway?

Boy, it got cold overnight. Good that we had the cooler and furnace guys over yesterday so we were ready this morning. It was the first time we had that thing on, so we all skulked into the hallway to stare at the heater closet while the furnace whirred and whooshed to life. We all calmed down once we realized what it was doing. (Mom says it's a whole lot quieter than the "Pratt & Whitney" we had at the old house, but still it's too loud for us.)

Anyway, we all took advantage of the sunny windows today, me in my sleep box in the office...

It's me tonight, Pee! This was me (and my bro) earlier today. We had the balcony door opened to the screen for a bit so we congregated in the living room to take in some fresh air. Tonight, though, we will all be hiding, just in case. We don't know yet if we'll get any ghosts and goblins ringing the doorbell, but we are not taking any chances.

I mean, really? If we want to get spooked, all we have to do is wait for Russell to corner Caroline somewhere and she'll come across with that blood-curdling scream!

So it got cold and rainy last night and that continued into today. See how dark the clouds are? (You have to look beyond the nose prints.) Well, we just kept an eye out while my mom worked on stuff. I mean, you never know when a bird or a giant bug might try to get in because of the sudden turn in the weather. It's nice and toasty in here.

I don't know what we have planned for the weekend. I know there are things at the ready for updating the final room–our bathroom!–and I think the five of us could really help Mom out by painting. Now, where are those brushes and rollers?

So remember I told you we got a new vacuum last week? It replaced our feeble 13-year-old model and is specially designed to pick up fur. Thankfully it says right on it, "Do not use on pets," because, you know, someone might try. Anyway, while my mom was testing it out this weekend, I got to bite on part of the packing cardboard. Score!

Oh, and you know what? One pass through the house and the canister got so full of fur, it fell off! We thought that was hilarious. Double score!

So tomorrow is my mom's FAL day (Free At Last). She's looking forward to being done with it but sad about leaving the folks she's worked with for a hundred years. I say, that's why Cod made Facebook, but I don't know that I can convince her with that.

At any rate, our little studio may be getting some work from them in the next month or so to wrap up some web stuff. I think her hourly rate should be one cat tower and 15 toys. What do you think?

The cats will play! We didn't do any of her chores this weekend so now she has to catch up tonight. The best parts:

The new vacuum we got is still in the box!

And, on Saturday we discovered the door to the garage wasn't quite closed, so we got to explore at will! Russell got into something while rearranging things down there and then left dirty paw prints on the sills of the half wall, and somebody–maybe it was me–checked out a graphic my mom had been working on and left a noseprint on it that caused the colors to bleed. I thought it was a nice touch!

Anyway, we had a lot of fun this weekend–more than enough to make up for our dinner being four hours late on Friday night!

Yep. Sometimes I can't even have a peaceful snooze without a little disruption from my bro.

So tomorrow is the day my mom will be hunting to all hours and then the weekend, too (it's the date of the conversion at the bank). Then, only one more week and she'll be all ours! And what are we doing after that? We're starting our own web design studio! Mom will do most of the work, since this is what she has been doing for about 75 cat years, but we are definitely on staff. Just today she finally got the certificate of organization back from the state, so things will start rolling now. We hope to have everything else in place soon and then launch on November 1.

Phew! Already I need some time off!

We had a pretty exciting weekend. First, a balloon flew low over our place and scared us all. Then a police helicopter flew over and over and over us, looking for someone. Then there were the Thunderbirds, who were doing tricks in the sky miles and miles away at Kirtland Air Force Base. (And even though they looked like flies from this distance, they sure were loud!) Then we saw one of those secret planes no one's supposed to see.

Well, we're getting into snuggling weather, which is nice. A couple of cold fronts have wreaked havoc on our Balloon Fiesta, but I wasn't planning to go to that anyway. I think even Russell has gotten off the balloon kick.

I think my mom is getting somewhat better. At least she didn't keep us all awake with her coughing last night. I just hope she doesn't have whooping crane or something, because how would she have eaten something like that without us knowing?

I think I'm sad about Steve Jobs. Even though I don't have any of the toys he made, I know lots do. So today I have on a black mock turtleneck in his honor. It may be hard to tell because it's made out of black fur.

Yep, I still try to get everybody's dinner. Someone moves an inch away from the food, and there I am! Sometimes I can even out-speed Mom, who watches over the whole dinner experience just to prevent that. She is a spoilsport, is what I say. She says I will just yak everything up when I'm done vacuuming. And I'm all, and?

Still, I am a very happy boy and happier still for my mom, my bro, and even all my sisters. See? I smile a lot!

So in the middle of last night Mom got on the couch to sleep half-sitting up! She says it's the only way she can stop coughing. Yes, she was eating bugs again and has been sick since Friday. Anyway, this was a lot of fun for me, William and Caroline–we piled right on her. And–we all got to get some sleep, too!

So here's what I posted on September 30, 2007, six days after this boy arrived.

Of course he's worn out. He spent all Saturday and most of this morning chasing every one of us, despite Mom's telling him repeatedly, "Do not tease William" and despite Caroline screaming like someone dropped a piano on her foot whenever he got too close. Mom finally got out the Dreaded Water Bottle and he finally calmed down. Now we're on to Phase Two–which is I have to eat everything in sight within two seconds because I only got one morsel a day for a hundred years in the shelter (which I've already been through with both Olivia and Caroline)–so we're all eating dinner in shifts in different rooms. ::Sigh::

I was never this much trouble.

Thanks to everybody who sent him well wishes on the last post. I can honestly say that a brother was a pretty good idea, despite the rocky start and the fact that I thought my mom got him for her bathroom. We've had a fun four years.

But you know what hasn't changed in all that time? His eating habits!

First of all, goodbye, summer! Goodbye to cat-flattening heat! And welcome fall, my favorite time of year.

Things have been pretty quiet here. My mom has been watching some of the new shows on TV in the evenings, which always means major lap time. Well, until Caroline gets screamy because someone's in the same city she's in or Olivia's kangaroo tells her to bite on Mom. I guess if Mom can stand it, I can.

I'm quite happy that tomorrow is Friday and the beginning of the weekend. I'd go to the state fair, but once again, no deep-fried cat nip! What is up with that?? Anyway, I hope you all have a fun couple of days!

Well, we had a pretty quiet week with my mom returning to hunting and all. She told us tonight that her "Free At Last" date has been moved up to October 21 (a week after the transition), so we'll just have to be patient in getting her back all the time.

The weather has been just wonderful lately. Mom even rolled the portable AC into the closet–the place seems so much bigger now! (Ha ha ha.) We have open windows at last...and of course there was that little incident with Screamoline wandering out into the rain the other day. (For such a high-strung kid, she sure does some wild things sometimes. She's flown into the garage on occasion, too–thankfully, when the door's been down. I haven't even done that!)

Anyway, I've got to help Mom finish up her business plan, otherwise we're never going to get this show on the road! See? I've got my serious face on.

And do you know what? Last night my mom opened the balcony door for some fresh air and then opened some other windows, and when she got back she flipped on the balcony light to see if it was raining and thought, "How did a cat get on the balcony?"

Then she realized it was me! The screen door was open by mistake, so I just went on out for a little look-see! Well, it had started to rain, so I came in when Mom called me and all was well. She hugged me a bunch and said I scared her to death about a hundred times.

Now, really. Clearly this isn't true–it's certainly not Pretzel taking the picture!

So we had a pretty quiet week. Aside from visiting with our aunt for a few days, we just hung around and stuff.

My mom, on the other paw, replaced the kitchen floor, the kitchen lighting, the faucet, and painted one wall. You know, the usual stuff she does when she has time off. Thankfully, I think this is the last of it.

The Flamingos decided to not make an appearance this past week. I don't blame them. We had some nice weather with cool nights so no doubt they were enjoying that instead.

Oh, and guess what? We got Mom three crickets for her birthday! This was a lot of fun, even though she didn't get it. The first one, a young cricket, she captured in a glass and put him outside. The second one, a baby, she did the same thing with. The third, an adult, we decided to play with ourselves. His leg fell off and then he wouldn't play any more. Oh well. We had fun anyway and I'm sure she appreciated it.

And yesterday, we remembered.

And you know what that means–my mom will be off! (Well, home, I mean, since she's always off.) Anyway, it's the time when we traditionally take vacation. Woo hoo!

Mom assures me the Flamingos–our sometime-pitch posters–are still with us and are living downstairs in the garage. Maybe they'll be around instead of us. We're going to be busy with napping, eating, loving on our visiting aunt–you know, stuff like that.

When we get back, we'll be about a week older but my mom will be a whole year older! We think we'll get her some toys or grass or something. What do you think?

Ah, almost the weekend, too. We've had such a sad week in the cat blogosphere, with goodbyes from Kodak, Miss Peach and Beignet. We're trying to see them at the Bridge, but we can't yet.

About the only highlight was the hapless spider who found itself in our hallway last night. Pee and Oblivia couldn't care less about little live toys, but Pretzel, Screamoline and I had quite a bit of fun for a while. I think this was only the third spider we've had here–this place is seriously lacking in insect entertainment. We haven't even had one moth all summer!

My mom says thanks for all the well wishes. We're actually looking forward to this. (Now, if our old house hadn't sold, we might be meowing a different tune. In fact, that was her panic upon learning the news–O.M.G. Two. Mortgages.–but it did sell, and in an amazing eight days!) So even if William and I don't make a lot of money on our paper routes, we're going to be rolling in cat food for like a hundred years!

What's that, Mom? What do you mean, we're too little for paper routes?

The Long Goodbye.

So for those of you who know the story about the horrible federal bank regulators (HFBR) who back in January 2010 crushed the bank where my mom hunts might also know that the HFBR showed up that Friday in January with a buyer for the crushed bank. If you don't know that, there it is.

Fast forward to one week after my mom closed on the condo, March 2011. Poor bank buyer! Never having got the whole theory behind a running a community bank, he decided to sell it.

Well, he found a new buyer, in June. A real community bank. One that even the HFBR could approve of (because there is always that). Unfortunately but understandably, the new bank only wants the branches and its personnel, not any of the back office folks. The back office folks (about 30 of them) will be "transitioned." We are expecting that to happen mid-October. Which is now 53 days away.

Amazingly, since some of these people have been there forever and a day, many of them are looking forward to just ending this chapter once and for all. After all, they have all been stressed since the very beginning of this episode, which at this point would be about three years ago. So those who can–including my mom–are going to take a tip from us cats and

j-u-s-t--r-e-l-a-x!

So that's that. Not the Next Big Thing, but the countdown of days thing. Maybe more on the other later!

Oh, and did you notice no pictures again? The batts in the camera died and my mom is just too feeble to replace them at the moment. Score!

The Excitement Continues.

Oh, what a pleasant night we had last night. We all slept like logs, including my mom, who fell asleep on the couch and then overslept this morning!

So don't tell anyone, but my bro has been a scofflaw for about a month now–his license expired in July! Maybe the city's notification does not forward; my mom kind of forgot. And of course Russell said nothing, since it would mean he'd have to be shot! Well, today he did finally, so he should be back on the straight and narrow within a few weeks. That is, if the licensing place–outsourced to a place in Texas!–can put two and two together and figure out that we used to live somewhere else but now live here.

And probably the most thrilling part of today? Mom was notified about suspicious activity on her bank card! Somehow someone in Dubai started buying things left and right! Not to worry, though–this is a card from her Good Bank, not her Bad Bank (who'd probably just pay all the stuff and not tell her), and security is all over it. Nevertheless, I'm just putting that thief on notice: DON'T BE BUYING EVAPORATIVE COOLERS WITH MY MOM'S MONEY, if that's what you're buying over there.

Boy, I hope we have a calmer weekend. My mom really needs to concentrate on The Next Big Thing...there are only 57 days left! Wondering what it is? Well, maybe I'll tell you next week!

First, I was too upset to post on Monday because of a horrible incident I was an ear witness to. One of those roadrunners–and they really are pretty mean birds, after all–had managed to get into a tree and destroy a little bird family. This was most traumatizing.

Second, the heat and humidity. OMC, we have been parboiling for days. Days, I say! Last night was the final straw for my mom, who was most distressed to find it to be 85° in her bedroom at bedtime. (It's a wonder she's not peeing on the carpet or yakking on the counter tops!) The evaporative cooler–no doubt the preferred cooling method of terrorists–had been getting worse and worse and worse. The problem, as it turns out? Hard water tends to clog up the lines, so only one of four was working. And of course it's only a 3AP motor (that's ant power). Anyway, a nice man came by this evening to clean up the lines and everything's getting better now. I think we are totally hating on this summer, though. (Mom says it might as well be called Menopause 2.0).

And then, then, our litter scoop broke! It was awful! That sent all of us into orbit!

So you see, that's why I haven't been around.

Well, my mom finally raised the food ceiling today and certain disaster was averted, and just in time. We were down to our last sixteen morsels, so everybody was quite relieved to see her lugging a 17.5-pound bag of SciDi up the stairs this evening. I guess this last-minute business was to divert us from getting jealous over her flirting with random adoptable cats at PetSmart, which she always does (and we always know). I don't get why she can't figure out that we are not fooled.

So this weekend I refuse to snoopervise Mom's continuing arrangement of ~~crap~~ stuff in the garage. She is planning to put up shelving on Saturday, specifically for all our troll boxes, known and unknown. I think all that stuff should remain buried behind the seven thousand other things down there. (But I guess it's a good thing that she finally unpacked the last moving box last weekend. And all our toys and fun things have always been safe. Now, if only I could get her to let me have at some cardboard...)

This tower is really quite fun for scratching, too. And since we got it? I no longer have the need to pluck at other things (except maybe Screamoline every now and then). I know that makes my mom happy. (Well, not the Screamoline part.)
